For those of you who might have accessed the listening selections for Quiz 3 BEFORE Friday afternoon at 4 PM (11/08), some tracks were added from CD 6, that were omitted previously. Please include these in your preparations.

1) Web Review Materials:

ALL CLASS MATERIALS ARE ACCESSIBLE THROUGH THE COURSE WEBSITE, AS INDICATED IN YOUR SYLLABUS. Here are the directions:

• The name of the site you are using for this class is Living Encyclopedia of Global African Music. Within it is a special section for Music 80E. This website is not passworded.
• Go to "http://arts.ucsc.edu/faculty/hesterkarltone"
• Click on "Encyclopedia of Global African Music"
• In the menu on the next screen, click on "Users," repeat procedure on the next screen.
• In the right frame, a bright-blue highlighted area will show up, which is the Music 80E portion of the site. Everything you need is linked from here, including links to course listening and other materials.

Passwords again:

• Online listening: "Co1trane" (Username: music80e)
• Images of African instruments: "E11ington"
• E-Res: "musicinnovations"

Friday, 10/18/02:

1) Midterm: Please remember to bring a no.2 pencil with eraser and a Scantron sheet (ParScore form number f-1712, unfolded, unwrinkled, etc.) to your midterm next Friday (10/25/02). We will not have spare supplies available. For detailes on preparing for the midterm, please refer to the handout passed out in class on 10/18/02.

2) The file named Lecture Notes posted recently that provides a historic outline, is renamed "Study Guide" and they are still available from the same place as before.
